OVERVIEW OF THE KEY AREAS OF DEPLOYMENT OF THE 500,000 NEW TEACHERS
The Federal Government of Nigeria has made further clarification concerning the proposed five hundred teachers to be under the N-Power Teacher Corps Programmes. According to the official website
The N-Power Teacher Corps will engage
and train 500,000 young unemployed graduates. It is a paid volunteering programme of a 2 year duration. The
500,000 graduates under the N-Power Corps programme will get computing devices
that will contain information necessary for their specific engagement, as well
as information for their continuous training and development. Participants
will provide teaching, instructional, and advisory solutions in 4 key areas.
One of the ways that the Federal Government plans to diversify our economy is attaining self-sufficiency in producing the food we consume. An effective and well-coordinated agriculture extension system is vital to the attainment of sustainable national food self-sufficiency. To establish this system, the Federal Government will engage qualified young Nigerians through the N Power Agro program. After a first phase of training, N-Power Agro volunteers will start to function as intermediaries between research and farmers. They will operate as facilitators and communicators, helping farmers in their decision-making and ensuring that appropriate knowledge is implemented to obtain the best results on farms. N-Agro will also rely on the use of technology as the country aspires to identify soil types, farm sizes, irrigation data, and ensure that our farmers are operating optimally. In addition, successful applicants will also benefit from a compulsory employability and entrepreneurship skills development programme.

N-POWER COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Some members of the N-Power Teacher Corps
Programme will be deployed nationally to instruct on:
·Civic Education
·Adult Education.
Civic Education is imperative for the
development of an informed, effective, and responsible citizenry. Nigeria can
only be truly sustained by citizens who have the requisite civic knowledge,
skills, and dispositions. The programme will focus on the core values that are
vital to nation building such as promoting patriotism, integrity, productivity,
ethics, and efficiency. Civic education is essential to sustaining our
objectives to build a strong and competitive nation. The habits of the mind, as
well as “habits of the heart,” the dispositions that inform the national ethos,
are not inherited. Each new generation is a new people that must acquire the
knowledge, learn the skills, and develop the dispositions or traits of private
and public character that undergird a productive nation and a constitutional
democracy. Those dispositions must be fostered and nurtured by word and study
and by the power of example. The values that build a nation must be consciously
reproduced, one generation after another. This is what the programme intends to
inspire in our nation through the N-Power Community Education instructors.
Adult Education will provide instruction that
enables young as well as mature adults (above 18 years) to improve or
supplement their knowledge and skills within general subjects. From literacy to
numeracy, to other skills, this programme will also enhance adults’ ability to
improve their future job and educational possibilities. The target group to
benefit from the instruction are young as well as mature adults who have no
formal education or have never completed junior secondary education or who have
a need to improve or supplement their basic education.
In addition, successful applicants will also
benefit from a compulsory employability and entrepreneurship skills development
programme.
During the application process, each applicant is expected to choose only one key area of interest for him.
